In partnership with many of you we put our heart and soul into HB 3284, a bill that would have eliminated the criminal statute of limitations on certain child sex crimes. Unfortunately it did not make it to the floor, but we did make progress. Three cheers for Rep Jeff Barker of Beaverton/Aloha who sponsored the bill and made sure it got a hearing.

Deep thanks and admiration to the three survivors who told their stories at a rally on the Capitol steps. We are so grateful for everyone who took part in the rally or wrote their legislator in support. Thanks to the KPTV, KGW, KOIN, KATU, OPB and the Oregonian, thousands of Oregonians heard and saw survivor voices calling for justice and accountability for abuse of a child.

Other pro-victim and pro-child legislation that did pass included HB 2997, which allows protection from a person with whom the victim is not in a relationship, and SB 673 which makes paying a minor for sex a felony. Also HB 3194, which was a prison sentence reform bill, passed after removing a clause that would have reduced the minimum sentence for child sex abuse in the first degree.

With increased motivation and honed in strategy informed by our 2013 process, we are working NOW to eliminate the criminal statute of limitations for the 2015 legislative session. We need your voice and financial support to succeed.

Please help Oregon be the 34th state to stand on the side of survivors by eliminating the statute of eliminations. We will no longer pretend that child sex abuse did not occur just because the survivor turned thirty. Those of us who understand how difficult it is to come forward and speak the truth need to stand up for survivors who need time to address their abuse.

Your donation can be made online at or mailed to OAASIS PAC PO Box 2161, Portland OR 97208. And remember, Oregon’s political tax credit allows a married couple filing jointly to give up to $100 to a qualified political committee—individuals can give up to $50— and then receive the entire amount back when they file their Oregon tax return.

We need every donation, large or small! For the price of a cup of coffee and a bagel you can help us make justice for child victims a reality in Oregon. Just access the link above or send a donation now to become part of the movement.
